your laptoop is trying to use the domain its joined to to authenticate self to the server you are trying to search, since there is no mapping the authentication fails.

edit: check out Q306927 and Q297278 - and manually map using your new credentials via network neighborhood.

You could setup trusts between the two different domains, if you have admin access and both servers local, or via VPN..

Or you could move your laptop to domain you want to share files with

I don't have admin access on the laptop (its a work laptop) If I move the laptop's domain to my local home LAN domain, then I won't be able to rejoin the work one.. and I want more of a perm solution so I can easily share files.. any other ideas?? =)
