Any network gurus figure this out? :)

I have a great big application running across two machines. It takes several hours to complete its operations and although sometimes it goes through sometimes it ceases and I get "The remote server machine does not exist or is unavailable" error.

I suppose the guys running the network should be fixing this but...they aren't.

Anyway am I right to guess this is almost certainly a hardware problem? Since it works most of the time it seems that the hardware is getting swamped...?

Thanks for any insight!

Well, a lot of it depends on the hardware, the network topology, and the application being run, but I've seen routers and switches 'hiccup' after an extended period of maximum throughput -- for no appearent reason. The network connection is then lost.... very strange.
