Any neat little projects?

There's an ACM chapter at my school, but we haven't really done anything for quite some time now.

I'm trying to find things we can do, but it's a little hard 😛

Do you guys know of anything we could build or do in general that's neat? Group projects are nice, and since this club is related to computers, something about computers is what we're looking for...

What kind of price range do we need for that?

Oh, and what about legality of the games running on it?

Well, I built mine for under $600
$75 for the DigDug Cabinet
$$ for 1.4tbird & other computer stuffs
$ for some extra wood/paint/etc..
and a monitor or old tv or something
a few bucks for buttons, joysticks, etc..

Hell you could probably do it for fairly cheap

What about legality of what we run on it?

hmm.. I don't know, I didn't have to think legality when running it in my garage.. 🙂
Just go for the old school 80's games.. ?? Maybe someone else can shed more light on that topic...

take an xbox case, gut it, put a laptop rig inside and make an xbox looking mame machine with a flip up screen.

Our ACM used to do many things. Here are a couple of ideas:

Run a distributed computing project. Pretty simple. SETI@Home etc.

We had the usual Linux distro programming. programming contests, etc.

Build robots that can sense the environment.

Make a mod to UT2K4. We made one that was college related, where you ran around shooting each other with paintball guns, fireextinuisherrs, etc. The powerups were glasses of beer, and kegs of beer. The drunker you got, the more health you had, the faster you could run, jump, etc. However, the drunker you got, the worse your aim is and the harder it was to run straight. The screen also blurred with drunkenness. We wanted to make it objective based, like you had to do pranks, rescue sorority girls.
