If you're not, you may kindly leave. Besides, everyone knows that only real men listen/watch musicals anyway :)

I just saw Les Mis this past Sunday, and have to say that it was absolutely amazing. I've been listening to all the songs from there, but to see it up live was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I'm looking forward to seeing Mamma Mia and Miss Saigon in the coming months too..

I guess no one wants to admit they're cultured. ;) Don't bother telling them to leave...they'll flame us regardless. I haven't seen a good musical in a while...saw the Lion King 2 years ago...kind of difficult to be up to date in Detroit. :) (Although, Rent is showing at the Opera House soon!) I put more time and money into classical performances, musicals are too hard to catch.

I saw Phantom more than enough times tho, so I'll just play that in my head for a while...

Ugh... even after all these years I still remember (and hate) that movie :p

I like Disney musicals. Pretty much all of them except for a few of the newer ones. Favorite is probably Lion King.

I was suprised that I liked musicals... I saw Chicago over the winter break and didn't expect much of it.. and was sure to hate it cuz it was a musical.. but it just blew me away... it was so unique in how music and real life can be tied together...

Also enjoyed Mulin Rouge in how it mixed all those modern songs together.

Going to see Les Mis this April...

I've seen a bunch. I'd like to catch Les Mis before it closes again, but that's probably not that likely. Last one I saw before that was Beauty And The Beast which was pretty impressive.

It's tough to go WATCH musicals when you spend too much time doing them yourself. My run of Little Shop Of Horrors opens tomorrow night, and rehearsals for my May run in Cinderella start tonite. So many shows, so little time.......

Wow, what's it like running your own musicals?

Well, I don't "run" them, I'm just an actor. Actually in Little Shop I am the puppetteer, which is definitely one of the most bizarre and unique things I have ever done. I spend almost the entire show on stage, yet no one ever sees me :)

It's a lot of work and investment of time, and sometimes a little bit of money for costumes, makeup, club dues, but you meet a lot of very cool people, it keeps you active, social and fit, and as someone doing community theatre it's a good feeling that you are contributing to the cultural well-being of the people around you.

I highly recommend supporting community theatre in your area by finding out what is going on (they usually advertise in local papers and businesses). You don't have to go to NYC or a professional theatre to see great performances. There is a lot of amazing talent right in your backyard, and it's a lot cheaper, too. We roll the money we make from one show into defraying the costs of the next, so the more you show your support by coming to see us, the better the shows get :)

Some people wonder why you would do something like this, especially if you don't get paid, but everyone has a hobby. Some people play sports, drive cars.

I act :)

Oh yeah, I would really love to be on stage one day, even if it's in front of a relatively small group of people.

I was actually in a highschool production of The King and I when I was in sixth grade. Played Anna's son. I had a really good time doing it, too - unfortunately I woke up with a case of Chicken Pox on the day of opening night :( So I was never in the actual play. A couple years later, my choir teacher had us all go to see Sunset Boulevard while we were in Canada; from what I caught it was an awsome show. Unfortunately, we were in the nosebleed seats, so I couldn't hear very well. I'd love to be able to see that again.

Along similar lines - live performance - has anyone ever participated in a dinner theatre? That's fun. Takes place in a restaraunt; the waiter & waitresses are the actors, food is served between acts, and the audience actually gets to participate in the show. Did this up in Canada too, I think. I know it was on one of those trips.

I'd love to be able to do any of these things again, whether watching or acting. I'd really like to see Sunset Boulevard again, and actually be able to understand it this time :p

My girlfriend loves them, I can't stand them. It's not that I'm not cultured, I'm just cultured with a culture devoid of musicals. (and from what I've seen I'm not missing anything other than pure torment) :D
