well, i currently have a rio 500 (got in on the hp burner/rio bundle deal a while back). it was a good price at the time for an mp3 player with 64 MB internal memory, but at the cost of crappy sound quality (there is no bass). i was wondering are there any players, currently, that have good sound quality, compact, reasonable priced, uses and supports 128 Smart Media, and have at least 64 MB internal memory?

thanks!

Sound quality would be a function of speakers / encoding more then the player I would think.

It's dependent on the player as well.

i believe it is because i've had a friend try my player out and compare it to a nomad II with same earphones and the nomad II sounded better and had more bass. also with the same ear phones my cd player has more bass than my rio does.

edit: oh yea, and on my player i really can't tell the difference between 128 and 192, so i just leave it at 128 to save space.

if you want to record voice into mp3 too you can get the pogo ripflash. they sell it at amazon. anyway, it plays mp3s, has 128 internal memory, and accepts smart media. i use it to record mostly, and it works well for me. recording is its real strength IMO, not sure if it would be good enough for you if you just want to play mp3, since it doesn't support id3 AFAIK, nor directory listings, again AFAIK.

Yeah, I wouldn't doubt that the player isn't very quality. I can definitely tell the difference between 128 and 192kbps songs I record for playing on my normal discman, and I use pos headphones...

I got some very good Sony earphones for my Rio 500, and it sounds great. I've had it for years, and it's still one of the best out there.

Oh dont worry man, its not my post.

As for the player, I had no idea the player would affect the SQ that much. Interesting.

MPIO DMG seems to fit the bill. I have one of these and they are great.

Up to 128 megs internal with a smart media slot for up to another 128 megs.

Size is good, battery life is great, and sound quality is good. Transfers via USB 1.1 which is decent.
