Event Horizon is fantastic, and has a very similar feel and look and a great story. Its not exactly an unfriendly "alien" they encounter...but its pretty fucking bad. I can't say any more than that because I don't want to ruin it for you.

PS. Also, Fishburne is the captain of the ship...what more could you want?

I never got the impression that the E.T. alien was of the aggressive unfriendly nature lol.

Yeah i seen event horizon, pretty terrifying movie, sam neil and co are good in it. Really makes you think about things... where was that ship, what was on the other side that pulled that guy through the gravity drive, what did the ship bring back with it... I saw it when i was 12 lol, scary stuff.

I seen pitch black too, pretty decent movie.

Well since you've seen it, I'll tell you where the ship went: HELL.

The translation of the Latin phrase on that horrible captain's log video they found was "Save yourself from Hell". It was a warning from the Event Horizon's captain...right before he ripped out his own eyes.

Yeah but thats just the crews interpritation of where the ship went, the guy sam neil puts it best when he says "HELL is just a word, the reality is much worse" What is the reality in that movie? I dont imagine it being red guys with pitchforks and a guy with two horns leading them, the movie they played back showed the crew going insane, but what caused that? What else is through there in "HELL"? Well we'll never know because theres no event horizon 2 :p but i sat and thought about it for a while.

There are TONS of movies like that with people trapped in a small area (space ship, arctic station, moon base etc..) The first one to spring to my mind was "The Thing", but there are several other good ones

What it showed was that right after they arrived on the "other side", they went mad and started mutilating themselves and eating each other. :Q

Leviathan was pretty much Alien, underwater, complete with the scene where all the crew-members are integrated into some sort of cocoon-like deal (though the scene was left out of the final cut of Alien).

Leviathan was also not a very good movie.

I have to agree, I cannot understand why everyone thinks Event Horizon is so great. I found it be mediocre at best. Maybe it's an age thing. I might have thought it was cool if I was 12.

I kind of liked "The Astronaut's Wife", but is is slow-moving and gets a lot of poor reviews, so to each his own I guess.

Event Horizon began well but quickly went to poop. The portal to hell schtick is so incredibly trite. And in this case it just became silly.

The Hidden is not the same genre and intentionally light hearted versus Alien and The Thing. Both The Hidden and The Thing do have captivating and memorable opening scenes though.

Alas, I cannot think of any others worth watching but there must be...

Also, it should be said while Alien has an element of mistrust, the physical confrontation is primary whereas in The Thing it is more psychological. The Hidden is something of a mix in that regard.

Alien remains the scariest movie I've ever seen in the theater. I was about 12 at the time, I guess.

I still have yet to watch it all again. I try sometimes when I see it on TV but it stresses me out too much. I guess I really need to watch it one time and get over that.

I am 47, and have watched horror/sci-fi all my life. I remember seeing Alien in the theater when it came out, and it is still hands down the scariest sh*tfest ever. Also, I am a big fan of Event Horizon: I thought it was a great plot, and Sam Neil really pulled it off as a scientist who becomes possesive of his ship design, and succumbs to forces WAY beyond his control. One of the scenes that still freaks me out about that movie is when he (like all the others) starts having hallucinations, and he sees his dead wife with the black eye balls!
