my laptop has a damaged bios and I am trying to perform a hotswap thingy, I need to have a motherboard that is probably p3, it has a AMI bios, and the bios chip is removable, and the chip is a square shape PLCC 32pin chip... I remember gigabyte has dual bios but I am not sure if they are award or AMI.. :(...

u cant just go around swaping bios's left and right and exepct it to do anything, cause it wont. btw "square" is a shape, not a size.

I actually have done couple hotswap on asus boards back then, and they are award bios, relatively easy but this one is a laptop bios. I think it would be different story then. yeah, it's square shape and the size is 512k on the rom, so I think a 1mb chip or any comparble chip should work.

well for it to work the bios you swap would have to be able to make sense of the new system. I would think that the boards would have to be nearly identical.
