My sons best friend is going on a mission. Do you give a gift for this occasion?

I'm mormon. I had an open house and some people gave cash as a gift but it's not expected.

If your wondering about what to do later too. After being out on the mission for a while if you send him/her a package with candy bars, jelly beans, and beef jerky he/she will never forget it.

Give him a rasta hat. It will confuse people and they'll be more receptive to his message.

OR...you could jack a Jehovah's Witness for his Watchtower magazines...send him with those to really make him popular. :whiste:

Cash is actually a really good option in this situation. It's something like $400 a month for 2 years that you have to cover yourself (it's basically full-time volunteer, so no other income from a job during that time period). Be slick and give him the money handshake, it will be much appreciated

Yes, they're all over the place in P and N.

Edit: misread thread title.

Tell him about the Kinderhook plates and Book of Abraham so he can shed such an obviously man made and phony religion. Then give him cash.

Best gift you could give him is to sit him down and convince him not to waste any more time on this nonsense.

lol, I don't agree with you and I'm not mormon, but this comment is pretty funny.

I would send a package in a few months. That will mean a lot more than anything you do now.

You're viewing this as a religious exercise. Look at it from the perspective of a young person who may have never spent time away from home before. The mission is a grand adventure and a socially condoned one at that.

Please stop the debate of this religion or I will report to moderator to close this thread. My purpose was to give a nice gesture to my sons best friend .

You asked if and/or what kind of send-off gift is expected for someone travelling to foreign lands to convert heathens to their religion. I don't think anyone is judging based on his religion, which they rightfully could...I mean geez, if you're gonna believe in some absurd fabricated crap, at least have the decency to make it crap that was fabricated over a thousand years ago, right?

But rather, they are judging based on the fact that evangelicals are, for all intents and purposes, kinder, gentler neo-nazis.

Okay, maybe that's harsh. But at the very least, misguided intolerant fascists.
