Any newer PC games out there using modern graphics engines that play like Myst or Riven where the focus is puzzle solving and the puzzles make physical sense? Maybe something based on the crysis engine or other eye candy.

Pretty sure there was a 3rd Myst. Nobody makes games like these because... well they aren't very fun.

Exile was the third Myst but they screwed the pooch with it, going from interesting logic puzzles to random guessing. While I enjoy killing people and really like shooting down helicopters I'm trying to find something with a bit more variety.

As for Myst 3 and 4, I liked both quite thoroughly and thought they stood up to the others fine. I haven't played the 5th yet, so I won't comment, but Uru was alright. Can't say I've gotten into many other adventure games, and most of the new ones look worse than the Myst series simply because they have much lower budgets.

The Journeyman Project might be less challenging but I found them more enjoyable. Maybe it was because they came out so long ago like Myst and they might not be as enjoyable today. Honestly I don't know of any other games ever made like either.

Machinarium was an amazing puzzle / logic based game with a really cool graphics style. The music was addicting to say the least. Doesnt quite play exactly like Myst but may fit the bill for you.

Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit in some regions iirc) might suit you. It's not so much of a puzzle adventure as is is a mystery adventure game, but it's a really unique experience with a pretty engrossing story.

My mom is a Myst/Riven/URU fiend, so I'm always on the lookout for puzzle adventure games that she might enjoy.

She really liked Samorost 2. It doesn't play like Myst really, but the puzzles are well done, and the game is enjoyable.

There is a demo version online at their own site:

It's also on Steam.

The Penumbra series would be similar as well, but those stupid dogs really sort of ruin the puzzle aspect of the game IMO.

yea, 12 million copies sold and the game wasn't fun at all... the game might not have been a little too hard if there are no fighting scenes or explosions....let's face it .. you couldn't handle it and now your whining about it.
