Any modern guns use clips?

It's been done too many times all ready.

Even some firearm manufacturers have referred to magazines as clips in their manuals.

Get over it.

I couldn't possibly care less if people call them clips or magazines. I use both terms and if that offends someone they can suck a bag of dicks. :p

Because people are dumb. "Clip" has become synonymous with "magazine" same as "iPad" for any tablet, or Kleenex for a nose tissue, etc.

From this post:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=37993722&postcount=30

if not, then why do people still say clips instead of mags?

Define "modern" I guess. Some still use clips but spring-loaded magazines are the more common technology nowadays. Although if governments continue trying to criminalize magazines or limit their capacity we may see manufacturers revert back to designs using an en-bloc clip inserted into a fixed magazine.

because people think that using the term clip instead of magazine in a forum is the same as mistaking weight for mass in a PhD paper.

Forget forums, it's just general ignorance by the left. You know, the same people that repeatedly state the "gunshow loophole" means anyone can go to a gun show and buy automatic weapons without a background check.....

What's a gun ?

I mean some people are ignorant enough to call them that instead of a rifle, sidearm, or a weapon.

():)

And was just extrapolating a bit, I care less if anyone says gun either.

Unless you're a Marine "gun" is a generic term, but then again they call a dirt ground surface a "deck" and stairs a "ladder" so I don't know if they're the people who should get to define the term. Insisting on using the type of gun instead is like insisting there is no such thing as "artillery" but only howitzers, cannons, and mortars.

I wasn't the one starting splitting hairs around here.

The other terms are Naval of course, as it a Department of the Navy and tend to deploy on ships frequently, most things are referred to along those lines.

It doesn't, pretty much why I said as much in the second post.

Someone just wanted to stir things up and dump and run per usual it looks.

Actually it does; in some states whether a weapon uses a magazine or a clip is a big deal because it might get it classified as an "assault weapon" and you might not be able to own it depending on the answer.

And that matters in what way in a casual remark on an internet forum ?

Have a nice day.

and the ever popular "semi-automatic machine gun"

A few of them here too, they see a gun thread and have this urge to spread fear and fud.

My dad owned a SKS (purchased in the early 90s) that used a slip clip.

But in the (not so) big picture, don't give a rats fetid backside.

A clip is used to load a magazine, and they have recycled the stripper clip idea and used it to load modern removable magazines.
