Any mid range recommendations?

I currently have an 1800XP Athlon running on a ASUS A7V266e MoBo with a GeForce Ti500 card. I?ve just purchased a cheap 2400XP Athlon as an upgrade and was looking to upgrade the videocard too. So any recommendations?

I?m not after any top of the range stuff as I?ll be buying a complete new system, next year, when the next generation 64 bit hardware/software is released.

As an interim video upgrade I was thinking 9600/5600? but not sure whether to get Ultra/256MB versions or possibly wait till the 9600XT?s are available. Would they be worthwhile or would I just be paying extra for features I couldn?t currently use.

The Motherboard is only AGPx4 , running @ 266. This machine is mostly used for DX8.1 games but reasonable performance for DX9 titles would be nice :)

All advice gladly received

get a 9600 pro (128 mb), the XT will be (slightly) better but also more expensive... not worth the wait if u ask me, i wouldent touch a 5600 with a 10-foot pole. a 256 mb card is totaly useless (at least when it comes to 9600/5600) and will prolly have lower preformance due to the fact that they use slower memory

I would wait for 9600XT, will be out in 4-7 weeks, and it comes with HL2, which if you are buying is a good deal, 200 isn't bad for prolly the best Midrange out there.
