Any medium-range cards benchmarks for HL2?

Did anybody see HL2 benchmarks with GeForce 4, 5900XT Radeon 9x00 cards yet?

Need to decide whether I need to upgrade first...

Taken from the HL2 GPU Roundup Part I
We?ve left a number of questions unanswered here today involving older/slower hardware, so be sure to check back for part II of our Half Life GPU comparison to find out how well older hardware performs under Valve?s amazing game. Thanks for taking a break from playing Half Life 2 to read this, now get back to it?

I'd expect Part II with the mid-range hardware to be online in a matter of days.

Those results are quite surprising and contradict what Anandtech has posted which show a wash between the 6800 Ultra / X800 XT and 6800 GT / X800 Pro. Any speculation on what is going on?

Well the XT leads the ultra in all tests so far. the surprising results are with the x800pro, which either ties or beats the GT (and ultra!) depending on the site and/or system configuration.

every site has made their own demo so far, except for DH which used an ATI supplied demo. It seems that in some parts of the game, all the cards are pretty close (anandtech, firingsquad). However in other parts, such as that tested by xbit (hardocp, firingsquad), the x800s just crush the 6800s. Overall, I'd imagine that the x800s do in fact beat the 6800s, but maybe less so in parts of the game that are more cpu-dependent.

So, I need to make a decision whether to throw out my GeForce 5900XT and replace it with a 6800 or 6800GT.

From what I see, the main disadvantage here is that I would be subject to the DirectX 8.1 path.

But apparently only water effects and shadows are actually changing if your card can do the DX9 blues. I can hardly think this is worth it.

Opinions?

Anand has the benchmark that I need up.

I don't think I need to spend $400 on water effects.

I think of it this way: if I play it in the DX8 path now then the replay value is higher :)

There are also some shaders which you will notice a HUGE difference in, and, of course, being able to crank up the details and still get your FPS is always nice.

I can't wait to build my DX9 system in about a month here. I'm very much looking forward to a replay of the game with a new rig and all the pretty on.

Looks like the x700 does pretty good. Especially for the price. Shame it's only available in PCI-E format.

I have a 5900XT in my second rig and just got a 6800nu for my main rig today.

Here's how the game detects settings for each card:

Geforce 5900XT:

RES: 1024x768
Detail: HIGH
Reflections: None
AA: None
AF: None
DirectX path : 8.1

Geforce 6800nu:

RES: 1024x768
Detail: HIGH
Reflections: Reflect World
AA: 4x
AF: 8x
DirectX path: 9.0

I haven't played the game really yet so i can't say if i actually "see" a difference or not yet.

Here's my 3dMark03 scores from both:

5900XT: 5300

6800nu: 8795

I definitely think the 6800nu is a very nice card and i still love my 5900XT for my second rig.
Still a great performer in directx 8.1 mode.

I just wanted some more eye candy ;)
