hello
im looking for a good dualhead card. the Matrox always seem to beat out radeon ve and ge2mx in every review. but how do the G4xx work under heavy Quake and CS loads? (on the primary display). their chipsets are impressive but i hear that the numbers (fps) arent to die for. whats up?

Matrox G400 or G450 is not a gaming card. Get the Radeon for gaming. The 2D text is awesome as well. I sold my Matrox and bought a Radeon. I don't like Nvidia's 2D quality either. Hence, the Radeon is the best all around card. JMHO I've owned and used all three in the last year.

A G400 32mb or G450 32mb DDR (stress the "DDR") will work fine with CS, at 1027x768. Quake1 and 2 runs fast on this card, no worries there.

In Q3, it should do 800x640 HQ at 30-40FPS. A G400 MAX will do 60FPS, so see if you can find one. The G400 is more overclockable than the G450, but the G450 allows higher secondary display resolution and is usually cheaper.

BTW, the G400 is (relatively) very FPU dependant, so you should have at least a P3 or Athlon to get the muscle outta this card.
