Hi guys,

I'm just curious... the Boeing 727's we fly at work have 3 engines that produce 14,500 lbs of thrust each. How much HP would this be? I have no idea how the math would go for something like this, but if anyone's really bored and has the ability, I'd love to see a rough solution.

Here's some sample data to aid the calculation:

Takeoff weight is 169,000 pounds.
Acceleration from 0 to takeoff rotation of ~150 mph is 35 seconds.

The best I can come up with is that we have 169,000 pounds accelerating to 150 mph in 35 seconds. Not accounting for wind or friction, how much HP is needed to accomplish this?

Is there a way to convert straight from thrust to HP? I'm not aware of such a conversion, but what do I know?
