Whoozyerdaddy is correct. Asphyxiation are suffocation are basically synonyms.
This is assuming you're talking about oxygen levels in the H2O being too low. Fish out of water are actually exposed to too much oxygen...that is unless their mucous flow ends up covering their gills and then they suffocate anyway.
