I too am a Comp Engr who's about to graduate. The other day I met a guy who has a Masters in Advanced Artificial Intellegence Nural Networks or something like that and he's currently working as a salesman in Advanced Autoparts because he can't get a job. Talk about depressing. If this guy who has the same degree as me plus another advanced degree can't get a job as a CompE, what do us mere BS in CompE have?
And another thing, why is it every company I've talked to think all Computer Engineers can do is program? I'm sick of programming all the time. The reason I choose CompE in the first place was so I could do both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science work. Sure we may not be able to do one or the other as proficiently as someone who is an EE or CS when first starting out, but we're supposed to be flexible enough to be able to do either. Given enough experience in either type work, I'm sure we can be just as proficient. Nothing beats on the job experience.
That said, anyone looking to hire a CompE in the South Carolina or Atlanta, GA area?
