OK I am taking a management class and for our first project we are suppose to analyize balance sheets from two companies in the food industry. I have no idea where to start.....PLEASE HELP!

Start by getting the balance sheets. This info may be available in their respective prospectus.

The professor gave us just two balance sheets and we are suppose to perform a ratio analysis and comment on the solvency....what does that mean?

Uhh, wasn't there some sort of prerequisite for the class, like basic accounting?
Teachers usually don't assume prior knowledge unless it's required.

theres tons of ratios u can use from that

debt to equity ratios
quick asset ratio
check over inventory turnover rates and accounts recievable turnover rates if u had the income statement also
