Any major draw backs to ship from US to Canada?

I have someone from Canada that wants to buy a laptop of mine and I've never shipped to Canada. Any tips, pointers?

no need to deal with international when you can always find a buyer in us

Ignore the three previous posts in this thread.

I've had my stuff shipped UPS ground and had it within 2 or 3 days.

'Gift' labelling doesnt' really work anymore, the best thing you can do is write the value as being less than it really is, it also helps the recipient avoid brokerage fees.

It will only be held in customs if paperwork isn't filed properly, but since you're not shipping any medical things that shouldn't be an issue.

I warn you that shipping through the ground services such as UPS and Fedex ground will result in brokerage charges at the recipient end. In addition, the recipient will have to pay any duties that apply in addition to taxes (usually 15ish% unless they're in Alberta, in which case it's only 7%). Make sure your buyer is aware of all this.

USPS is probably your best bet. You won't have to deal with the damn brokerages. However, you might still have to pay the duties on it, and I don't know if you can buy insurance on it or not.

I've noticed that it gets kinda expensive to send stuff to Canada once the weight exceeds 4lbs.

Since my family lives in Vancouver, and I go back home at least twice a year (if not more), I just save it all up and take it all up when I go home and mail it out when I get up there.

I generally dont ship to canada. It is just a cluster F@#$ for everyone. Especially around the holidays. Forget about it getting there in a decent amount of time. If you do though, use fedex air like was suggested or usps priority and make sure they know you cant track it once it crosses the border. Its theirs.

I AM Canadian, and if you see my Heat I've done plenty here in terms of FS/T.

1. Please ship only USPS to Canadians and NOT UPS. They charge HUGE fees ($40) on top of what the item costs. 95% of the time through USPS, no duties come through.
2. Mark the item as a gift. That won't help much, but any little bit helps.
3. Try to put a low declared value, but of course what it's worth. If the item was bought off FS/T for $25, puttint $20 wouldn't hurt. Obviously you can't list a laptop under $20, but just be reasonable and not put down the MSRP.
