Any major advancements in cable modem technology?

Hi all,

I just recently moved into a new house, and due to the cable jack layout, I'm going to have to go with an all-wireless setup. I've already decided on a good Linksys wireless router, but while I'm upgrading, I'm considering buying a new cable modem as well.

My question is this: have there been any recent advancements in speed or reliability that would warrant getting a Motorola Surfboard instead of my existing 3com modem? It's a couple years old, though I haven't had any real problems with it. What's the word?

Not sure... I have an RCA modem and it works fine. I would imagine the cable company in your area and the quality of the lines would have more to do with the quality of your connection than the modem.
