A while ago I posted about this with no such luck, I figured I would try again, hoping for better results. I and dualbooting XP and 98 on my computer, with a geforce3 ti-500. Whenever I had tried to install XP (I installed it after 98) with the video card installed it would get part way through the install process, then the screen would blank out and the computer would go dead with nothing i did able to restore it, unless i rebooted. After taking out most of the unnecessary components, I finally established that it was an incompatibility with the video card. I replaced it with an oxygen card that my friend had, and I was able to install XP without a problem, then when it was fully installed, I switched the video cards again, and installed the drivers for the Gefore3. I belive it was the 15.11 (15. something) drivers with the 1.08 support install which was supposed to make it fully compatible with XP. This worked, and I have had no problems running XP with that card. I was just wondering what to do if I had to reinstall XP for some reason what I should do, because switching the video cards is a hassle, and I dont want to have to do it every time. is there a way to upgrade the video card (firmware...?) to get it to recognize XP and not cause these blackout problems? I appreciate any and all ideas in this...hopefully someone will have the answer this time, because visiontek was of no help. Oh, by the way, it is a visiontek card, i think it is the Xtasy 6864 or something, whatever the equivalent to the geforce3 ti-500 is, I don't remember offhand.

Much thanks

My Gainward Geforce3 works fine with XP. Using nvidia reference drivers version 22.50. No problems like you describe.

With my Via KT266A based mobo I find XP works best if I DON'T install any Via driver updates (i.e., 4in1's, or any other Via patches/drivers), or any software that came with the GF3.

Im using a Tiger MP, and I installed Win2k basic install, added the Gforce drivers first, then upgraded to XP. It takes a while longer but less hassle than swapping video cards where my system is located. I havent tried a fresh XP install with just the Visiontek card on a bare drive yet.
