I just moved my pictures over from my laptop to the desktop.
They moved over nicely.
however, the editing I had done, did not.
How do I fix this? I assumed it automatically came over with the export/import catalog feature.

Can I move the meta data separately, and after the fact, or do I have to re-export the Catalog?

Browsing some photo editing forums seems to suggest 2 things:
1) Some, but not all of the metadata is in an *.xmp file.
2) Some, but not all, maybe most, "artsy folks," really have no idea how the software works.

I don't mean that as much as a cut on artsy folks, as I mean it as a complement to the folks here at Anandtech who are very good at speaking both languages.

copy the entire catalog folder over, then import it
you were unclear as to what exactly you copied over. the original files? or the imported files

I copied the entire catalog, but I either did not export the metadata or did not import the meta data. My guess is that I did not export correctly. Is there a setting that toggles between export files only and export files and metadata?

i had a hdd failure and restored my photos w/ edits by copying the folders and the catalog back, and iirc, opening the catalog directly.
