I just got Adobe Lightroom and would like to know if you guys/gals could point me in a direction for learning this software. At first glance it seems very complex. Are there any good books around? Good sites that you've visited that were actually useful?

As a note, I have used Photoshop a little at work for very basic image manipulation (cropping, resizing, etc.)

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I just played around with the software to learn how to use it. On Adobe's website, there was also a tutorial or two (maybe one was a video podcast) on how to do certain things within the program that I found helpful.

when learning the program, learn the keyboard shortcuts. it's a huge reason for me why the workflow moves so much quicker with Lightroom (that and batch processing).

I was forced to finally use it since my 40D doesn't work with RAW Shooter Essentials.

I like it so far after figuring out that you can mark off photos to put in a quick collection, then go through and edit those then export them all.

I don't know if it can do this yet, but it would be perfect if I could have it do USM and maybe a few simple actions (pick what on each photo), as well as define multiple crops per photo and then have it just export all of them at once. I'd be done except for B&W conversions.

I did a search on Amazon and found this:

http://www.amazon.com/Photosho...&qid=1203350510&sr=8-1

Scott Kelby is a good author of these types of books. Easy to read and understand and his books are usually not so dry you can't stand it. Others may be more in-depth but I have read a few of his books and they are decent - more for users not familiar at all with a particular program. If you want something a little higher level, you might try one of these two books, which focus on workflow:

http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Ph...qid=1203350510&sr=8-10

http://www.amazon.com/Managing...&qid=1203351180&sr=8-2

Thanks OdiN, that first book is exactly what I was looking for. I did do a search on amazon, etc., but I was hoping one of you guys could recommend a book or author specifically from experience... and you did! So, thanks a lot. You're a great help and contributor to this forum.

Are you a moderator now? Or have you always been?

You're welcome!

And lol no I'm not a mod unless they decide to make me one. I just enjoy photography and helping others to enjoy and learn it as well.
