If so, what's been your experience with the job market? That is, do you have as many options as, say, a LCSW or MFT? Is the pay comparable? Are there opportunities to work with adult clients (most of the jobs around here seem to focus on adolescents and substance abuse)? Any other information would be great too. I got into a master's program in professional counseling and am unsure whether or not I want to do it. .kjklj Thanks.

It's not a matter of getting the license or not, it's a matter of doing the master's program or not.

I don't know. I've never heard of LICSW. It might only be available in certain states.

I am sure there would be jobs available, depending where you at. But you are right most seem geared toward kiddes. The best ones seem to have both for clients from what I have seen and will specialize as well such as in sexual abuse, or D&A.

I see. It seems like it would be best to specialize in children/adolescents or adults, but perhaps it's more practical to see both.

It seems also that in PA you can be a MSW or LSW, it takes a few more credits to be a LSW, but you then can bill insurance. Family practice would be the way to go, it seems like one member of the family takes the blame but the whole bunch (esp the parents are screwed up) need help. BTW I work in child welfare, there is always a need for good SW's. Unless you would want to be spefic to D&A or such a family practice would be the way to go.
