Any lawn power tool experts?

My Ryobi string trimmer has cut its last weed. Need a new one ASAP. I have several attachments (blower, edger, hedge trimmer, etc.) so I need one that will accept these attachments.
Looking around online I see a few and I'm just wondering if one is as good as another.
Here's a newer model of the one I currently have form Home Depot. Click Here.
They also have a couple of others (toro, homelite) but they are less cc's. Ryobi is 31 cc vs the others are 25cc.

Lowe's has the Troybilt that appears to be the same specs as the ryobi.
Then Walmart has a Poulan trimmer that looks OK as well.

Anyone have any opinions of these or similar models?

Those attachments are proprietary. The odds of you finding another weedeater that will accept them is slim.
Go to the store and eyeball them. Take an attachment and a screwdriver or wrench with you. See if they'll work.

Yeah, Stihl and Husqvarna make good stuff. If you can't take the prices, Echo is a good compromise.

Yeah, the attachments are pretty much univerasal in between troybilt, john deere, ryobi and homelite that I know of. I have loaned my attachments to several people at work and they all work fine.
I figure one is as good as the other. Just wanted to see if anyone here had first hand opinion of them.

Also stihl is good and better quality than what I have. My wife's dad actually has a stihl weedeater. It's just overkill and over priced for my yard. He actually uses a ryobi at his house and saves the stihl for the rough stuff on his other property.

MTD must own ryobi or something because when I call their 800 number the message says MTD.
I'm actually leaning towards the troybilt. mIght just go down and pick it up tomorrow.

What's so confusing? It has cut its last weed. Meaning it worked the other day, now it doesn't. Past tense. It was "good" becasue it lasted me ~3 years. and I have 4 or 5 attachments that I used with it amost every time I used it.

Looking to save a buck, yet that $75.00 "investment" met an early grave. Its equally cheap replacement will do the same. After wasting $150.00 on junk, will you then cough up the money for decent tools, or keep following the same pattern?

Gotta give another thumbs up for Stihl. I've got a Weedwacker and a Chainsaw of theirs. Both about 18 years old and going strong.

I used to work as a lawnmower mechanic 30 years ago. Among other makes, I did all the Stihl repair. The only repairs I had to do on them were customer-stupid related. Dropping it and cracking the case. Filling the gas tank with paint thinner instead of gas/oil mix, etc. Very tough pieces of machinery.

I can see how you got so many posts.

I guess I should take all the attachemnts I have that are ~$50/each and just throw them away. That sounds like a smat investment. Look, it's obvious you are not a fan so just move on. Your expertise is well noted.
the ryobi has lasted me almost 3 years of weed eating, edging, hedge trimming, blowing, etc. It's worth it to me even if I pay 100 bucks for another one to last another 3 years. Or I could go out and buy spereate stihl trimmer/edger/blower/etc. and spend three times the $$$.

And actually mine isn't completeyl dead. I think it's just the clutch. But I want to get a new one so I can keep from switching attachments so often.

I have the troy built you posted. I inherited it from my father in law when he bought a larger walk behind weed eater. It's about 4-5 years old and still cranks on the first or second pull. I love it. I haven't had any experiences with the others you posted.

Stay away from the crappy Homelite (Home Depot), engines are junk.
