After months of saving and research this is what iam about to buy:

Antec plusview 1000amg case
450 watt OCZ modstream psu
DFI Lan Party UT NForce4 Ultra-D
Amd Athlon 64 3000+ venice
Western Digital 80GB SATA 8MB Cache 7200 RPM
eVGA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB
Lite On 52X CD-ROM

Well what do you think?
Does the retail fan cool enough to do some light overclocking (i will also use thermal grease)?

Looks like an excellent budget OCing machine, but what about RAM?
Why no DVD-/+RW?

The retail HSF will be fine for OCing.

Well i am on a very tight budget and i already have a dvd burner.I always thought i could add one later if i needed it

looks a-ok. i dont really like the case as I'm not a fan of steel cases, but if it fits your budget, go for it. you have all quality parts picked out, none of that screams junk

will that patriot ram work with the dfi? i have heard people say cheap ram will not work with it

also the reason i picked the dfi is that i want to get involved into overclocking is the dfi too advanced for a beginner to overclocking?

Actually i think iam changing my mobo to the MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum. Is this board good for a beginner to overclocking and is it stable?

Change that HD and get a Seagate 7200.8 200GB drive. Should run about $115 for one and for $15 more you can get a 250GB. Seagate has a 5 year warranty for that just in case scenario and they are one of the most reliable HD makers. If budget is a concern, get the Seagate 7200.7 80GB drive for a little under $70. Again, 5 year warranty but it's a slightly older generation of drives.

Forget a CD ROM drive, get a DVD burner, they only cost about $50. One of the more popular choices is the NEC 3520A. I think the NEC 3540 is out now for similar prices, though it's just a slight speed bump.

He said he already had a DVD burner. Looks pretty good to me... I think the main issue with the DFI is it is hard to get just right. When properly set up, it is a great board and very stable. However, I have heard it doesn't play nice with some types of RAM (though I have heard nothing bad about patriot). I would go for the DFI. Just read the manual VERY thouroughly before doing anytrhing (this should always be done) and consult these boards and other resources for help. HTH...

BTW - The MSI is also a decent board. I think it is a bit easier to set up, but it is your call.
