Any last comments before I buy a KDS 195TF 19" monitor?

These came very well recommended, both here and in other forums. Onvia.com has them for $424, free shipping.

I too would like to hear any final comments on this monitor.

whizler - post your opinion on the monitor once you get it.

Monitors are all about personal preference. The specs are only half of it. Keep in mind YOU will be looking at this monitor for quite a long time. Is it comfortable on your eyes? Do YOU like the monitor? If so, buy it.

Do WE like to look at the monitor? Well, I'm not buying one, but KDS makes good monitors! 😛

you have to decided for yourself, don't go by what others say because their level of quality might not meet yours, I started off with a viewsonic "19 & finally ended with a viewsonic "17, funny isn't it? looking for the perfect monitor for your eyes is harder than building 30 computers for a customer. I tried the kds 195tf, but the text on that was blurry even compared to a ctx trinitron, the kds was the only one out of the 3 fd trinitron models i had that made a loud buzzing noise when i 1st turn it on everytime, the other 3 trinitrons & 1 shadow mask just made a very quite click instead of the buzzing. I am very happy with the "17 viewsonic I have, out of 4 brands, viewsonic has the most advanced onscreen controls to correct any geometry problems, my current viewsonic PF77 has 3 pages of onscreen controls & it has support for both analog & digital connectors in the back of the monitor & has 3 cables, so when videocards with digital adapters become more common, i can instantly switch to digital view on this monitor.

I've owned a KDS AV-195TF for about a month now. Overall I'm satisfied. When I first recieved this monitor I was dissapointed to see a distinct darkening along the right hand margin. I tried every setting, calibration, driver, etc. that I could think of.

For an entirely unrelated reason, I had to upgrade DirectX 6.1 to 7.0a (required for Thief 2. Well actually, T2 ran with 6.1. I had a few problems and decided to go to 7.0a. Turns out the problems I had were fixed with the patch. So I probably didn't have to change Direct X) Just like that the dark margin dissapeared.

I use this system mainly for gaming. Flight sims and 1st person shooters. This is where the 195TF excells IMO. Text and 2D are above average, but nothing spectacular. But that's not so important to me with this system.

I bought it from Onvia and at the time it was $399. Funny how their price went up $25. Overall it's a very good monitor at a good price. If games are not your bag, you may want to consider another display.

When I was deciding which monitor to buy, my requirements were:

.25 DP or better (.24 for the 195TF)
capable of at least 1600x1200 (what 19" isn't these days?)
Able to hit at least 85hz refresh at max res (check)
Flat screen
Excellent 3D color/image (again check. But that's just my opinion)
Affordable

For me, the KDS met all of my requirements and I don't regret the purchase. However, the advice most people give is to view these displays yourself before buying is sound. Can't go wrong there. And if you don't like it, you'll have no one to blame but yourself.

The only problem I have with this monitor is that sometimes it turns a bit purple on the display. Find out that its the connection between the cable with the monitor, but how hard I tried to tight it up, eventually it turns purple again. Anyone have this problem? If so, is there a fix? Great monitor BTW...

BTW, the loud buzzing noise mentioned by RayEarth is of course the degauss. It is rather noisy. This is my first AG display, so I really have nothing else to compare it to. First time I heard it I admit I was surprised. But it didn't take much getting used to. And it took about 3 minutes to adjust to the damper wires. Now it's like, "what damper wires?" 😀

I got one also from onvia. I ordered mine on a sunday and had it on tuesday morning. I love onvia.
Plus this monitor rocks
