I just purchased a Kodak dc4800 and was wondering if anyone knew if this type of compact flash card will work: LINK
This is my first one so I don't know a lot about the technology so if you know let me know so I can upgrade right away.

Well, you need to determine if your camera accepts CompactFlash-Type II media. If so, it can accept all brands of CF RAM and the IBM Microdrive. If it does not support CF-Type II, then it can only accept all brands of CF RAM (4MB, 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, etc). Just make sure you don't buy SmartMedia!

I know it can't accept the IBM Microdrive. Is the link I posted CF1?

That DC4800 is a relatively new camera, I'm surprised it doesn't support the microdrive. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's Type II compatible, and they are all backwards compatible with Type I.

I've owned and still own the Coolpix Nikon 950 and it works as a dream! I love it, but like any other camera, it gets and drinks my batteries, get some rechargables

here's a link to my awesome camera

dcdomain, I'm not so sure the 4800 accepts CF Type II cards... the camera actually came out around August of last year, so it's not THAT new.

I know for sure it doesn't support the microdrive, but whether that would mean it could still support cfII I don't know. Is there that big of a difference between brands of CF cards? I was thinking about buying a 64mb Dane-Elec card at newegg, but it sounds like a no name brand to me and I was a little leary.

It does not support MicroDrive, which is a CFII. CFII cards are bigger. Hence, any CFII card will NOT work with the Kodak DC4800.

That said, the Hitachi card you posted is a CFI card, not CFII, so it should work. YMMV.

Many cameras do not support CFII, partially for battery life reasons, and partially for heat reasons. However, you can actually get the MicroDrive to work in these cameras if you build an adapter, or do what one sick person on the web did and took apart his camera and bent all the metal around the slot to make his MicroDrive fit. Note that his firmware didn't quite recognize the 1 Gig drive size, but it still worked.

Also note that if you get Flash, some cards are faster than others. Do a net search for comparative reviews.

I'm knowledgeable and a digital camera owner, but I don't know crap about digital cameras. You need to be more specific. :D

Looks like your questions are answered above -- just fooling around!
