The onboard sound on my MSI K7T turbo isn't bad, but it's not for me. Anyone have any issues with the SQ2500 Vortex2 and the KT133A chipset?

Thanks

Yes, it's very problematic to get it to install correctly and to work. Do a search for MX300 (which is the same chipset) in general hardware and you'll find several threads about this issue. (I wrote several replies in on thread about this issue just 2 or 3 days ago.)

Thanks - maybe I'll stick with SBLive Platinum then & sell my Live!Drive 1 - I never use it anyway and my new case only has 3 external bays - all full (Antec)

It's weird. Some do, some don't. My friend has a montego2 hooked up on his kt7a and it works perfectly. Still, the safe bet is to stay away.

i'd have to say no....i own an mx300 and ran it on an mpv3 and 686a southbridge (both via)...works flawlessly...

i think the troubles people are having are soundblaster DOS emulation related...just disable (or don't install it during the initial driver installation), or they're using the wrong driver versions...

note: the WDM win2k drivers suck massive sh1t...they function fine for everything but 3d audio (a3d)...which is the major merit of the card - it's superb 3d positional audio....

nortexoid, wasn't the MVP3 a super socket 7-based chipset? If so, that has no bearing on this thread. If not, then I apologize for my ignorance. :)

Sigh

The SQ2500(and all Vortex2 soundcards) work fine on the kt133. It's a matter of setting them up properly:

1) PCI slot must *not* share it's IRQ with other system devices.
2) Use Aureals last reference drivers 2048
3) Disable SB Pro DOS emulation

Take note: You are as likely to have problems setting up a Vortex2 as setting up a Live card. Strangely enough, the most common solution for the setup problems of these soundcards involves 2 of the steps above.
