Hi all,

I'm not into serious 3d gaming or anything, but I want to get an agp card - probably 16mb or 32mb for my asus K7v rig...

Whats the most stable agp card for this setup? I mainly do mpeg2 editing on it (capture with a DVC2), so 2d graphic quality would be my second most important criteria...

Thanks!

It really depends on your budget. I like nVidia cards better, but their 2D isn't the best. Check out an ATI Radeon card, it has great gaming preformance and the 2D is excellent.

Oops - I forgot to mention that... I currently have an ATI AIW (PCI 16M) that I've has a hellish time with - their drivers are terrible & I still lock on occasion - that's basically why I'm upgrading - tired of the locks! Are the Radeon drivers any better?

IMO the drivers are a lot better than the Rage 128's, and a lot of people seem to be able to run the Radeons with no trouble. Then again, there are people that can't run Radeons if their lives depended on it. But that's true of Nvidia and other companies' cards. The best thing you can do is of course, borrow one of each and try them out. But if you can't, and you've had such a horrible experience with ATI, you might want to try another company to see how you like it (I didn't have too much trouble with the Rage Fury either, maybe I just got lucky).

Also, the OS matters. The drivers for the Radeon in Win2k isn't very mature yet, sometimes the speeds are up to par with the Win9x ones, I would say about 60% of the time. But no lock ups or anything though...

So, other than the Radeon - which is the best 2d graphics? Also, is the graphic quality the same on the regular radeon and the radeon AIW - I'd rather not go with the AIW, if I don't have to...

Yeah, image quality wise all the Radeons are (should be) the same. Other cards with good 2d would be Matrox, and the Kyro II is also good (sharky extreme had a review and said the 2d was better than most nvidia cards). But I don't know HOW good it is.
