Any IT Pros out of work in the MI area?

I have been running the roads, hitting every job fair I can find and browsing the job sites nightly trying to find employment.

I have been unemployed all of 2005 so far.

Just curious if I am alone here or if Michigan's economy sucks that bad and others are suffering too.

(Gov. Granholm can kiss my white @SS by the way :|)

the economy here is in the crapper. Don't blame Granholm, blame Engler, he moved all the tax money out west and up north. That is why Grand Rapids is doing well these days.

Have you try the temps/contracts agencies? I know it is not the best choice but to have some money coming in and in some case, you could be temp to perm.

The economy here sucks, but there are jobs out there. Career fairs are a joke IMHO, jobs usually come through networking and friends from my experience.

What the heck are you guys talking about a Economy in the crapper???

Oh I see you're in a Blue State. The Red Staters swear the Economy is booming and they encourage either:

a) Move to a Red State

b) Change yourselves and Michigan to a Red State and supposedly there will be magically tons of high paying jobs available.

Seriously though, good luck. Don't be shy and post in the Jobs thread the top.
My contract job is coming to an end very shortly and I will be joining the job hunt.
I am in a Red State so hopefully will be able to find something. I moved from Georgia last June which is a Red State and had a hard time there so I don't know.

soon to be college grad, michigander checking in. still debating between working in a small business or checking out the corporate world...

Honestly, there are a good amount of jobs out there, you are just in a bad location. Come to metro Detroit where the auto sector is starting to bounce back.

You couldn't have picked a worse time and place to be out of work.

If the MI economy turns around it'll take a few months.

That being said, I've found jobs when times were worse.

I am looking to move to metro Detroit...Lansing.....Grand Rapids........anyplace!

I have sent out over 100 resumes so far and I haven't even gotten a phone call. I hate living up in the tri-city area. The whole place is dying a slow death. Soon it will be nothing but bars and Wal-Marts.....wait, it already is 🙂

The auto. market is definately coming back. I have been in it for the last 5 years and sales are starting to come back to where they were when I first started. Take a look at smaller suppliers.

I was just laid off from a supplier of automotive parts. They aren't seeing any improvements in the auto industry on their end. It is a trickle down effect.....

hell, GM is announcing shutdowns for plants all over the place b/c cars just aren't selling like they want them to.

I will keep the same routine as always.....hopefully something will come along......🙁
