A 6950 flashed to a 6970 is a 6970, so yes it'll work. It's the same GPU.
6970 can be crossfired with 6950 as well, without flashing.

yep. i had a spare 6950 doing nothing so i put it in my wife's computer with a 6970. works fantastic. i love AMD's multi-gpu features. you're not as constrained as nvidia![]()
If you do this with two cards of different VRAM amounts, does it default to the size of the smaller card? IE if you combine a 6950 1GB with a 6970 2GB does it function as a 1GB or 2GB setup?

It can only function as a 1GB setup. With AMD GPUs everything is as strong as the weakest link, the clocks will be the same as the lower clocked GPU as well.

Will it run like it's a 6970 crossfire setup? Any issues with this idea? Anyone try it before?
