the wife and i just finished watching "P.S. I Love You" - great movie.

both of us being part Irish, liked a lot of the music - any recommendations on contemporary Irish bands/music?

not necessarily looking for 18th century Greensleaves or U2.. but modern traditional(that's not oxymoronic, is it?) Irish music.

any ideas?

The soundtrack to The Secret of Roan Inish is very good.

Alan Stivell: Renaissance de la Harpe Celtique is good but covers Celtic music beyond just Irish

Ditto for Celtic Tales & Tongues, another good album

A Celtic Tale: The Legend Of Deirdre

Some of these may be Scottish as well...

Wolfstone
Runrig
Andy M. Stewart
Silly Wizard
Julie Fowlis
Tannahill Weavers
Dougie MacLean
Cannach
Airim
Back of the Moon
Gaelic Storm
Loreena McKennitt
Bongshang
Shooglenifty
Old Blind Dogs
Solas

There's a lot more that I can't think of right now, but these are some of my favorites.

the NPR radio show Thistle and Shamrock has a shit ton o' Irish music you can stream it online

http://www.thistleradio.com/

I used to listen to this all the time, but it comes on so early in the evening here, I don't listen any more.
I listen to Echoes every saturday here. It starts at like 9:00 PM EST and ends at like 7:00 AM EST. Awesome relaxing music. I usually fall asleep to it.

I think you guys mentioning dropkick murphys and flogging molly are stretching quite a bit on what the OP wants.

I enjoy
Seamus Kennedy
Great Big Sea
Irish Rovers
The Proclaimers

I'm not sure if they all are specifically Irish, but they are Celtic.
