It needs to be Under $400.

Looking for 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 or 1600x1200 or 1600x1050.

Probably >= 23" if less than 1200 resolution. Otherwise >= 20".

I need a screen that is just plain matte. Not Anti-Glare or Glossy.

Thanks.

I understand that this is a highly subjective and opinionated subject for many, but I think "matte" fairly accurately describes the coating on this one:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_zr2440w.htm

I purchased it as a stock item at Micro Center, so if you happen to be close to one you might have a chance to inspect it in person and judge for yourself.

Note carefully the input lag specs, though, if you're sensitive to this (I'm not).

matte and anti-glare are two terms to describe the same thing. A coating on the display that diffuses incoming light rather than reflecting it.

I have the Dell U2312HM, I like it a lot, it has a matte screen but its not really for gaming.
Try the Alienware OptX AW2310 120 hz monitor. im pretty sure That has a matte screen.

Every single current IPS matte screen has a sparkly nasty coating... Don't bother. Maybe wait a few years and see if anything better comes out. Or get a glossy one.

My NEC EA231WMi monitors are IPS and have a matte screen. They're older, but I think the newer revision is also IPS/matte.

Throckmorton knows what I was worried about.

That anti-glare coating that some call matte, is not the kind of matte that I'm looking for.

I have older TN panels that are matte and, I am thinking that, they do not have a coating and they certainly do not have a hard glass covering.
It seems to be just the materials needed to manufacture the panel.

What would you call that kind of screen? If it is also called "matte", then that is what I want and without "anti-glare coating".

Looks like current generation IPS panels are out. What about VA panels?

They have a coating, it's just not as bad. For some reason, the manufacturers have all started using horrible coatings.

I use a 32" TV. It has a matte coating, but it's not bad and looks very sharp, especially since you use it from 50% further than you would a 22" screen with similar res. Plus it's IPS.

22" 1680x1050 (16:10) DELL 2209WAf on e-IPS? Excellent specs and performance and lifetime door-to-door warranty included. Something breaks, they arrive with a new one, no hassle and no time being unable to work.

Great stuff and it's "old LCDs" kind of a matte (I know 'cause I similarly long for these).
