Oh definitely, we have 3 ipaqs (3630, 2215, and 5500) and we use CF GPS on all of them. I use a no name CF card I got off ebay for my 2215, works flawlessly. I recently bought two ambicon CF cards for the other 2 ipaqs so my parents could use them when needed, they are much slimmer than mine, but work just as well (especially with the external antenna) I'd recommend mapopolis for maps, the interface is extremely easy to use and the voice navigation is right on, even pronounces the names of the streets correctly. I've heard good things about routis, but I have yet to get a copy working so I can't speak to that. Make sure you have adequate storage space, my 2215 has an sd slot but the 3630 I had to buy a dual cf card adapter and use the second cf slot for a storage card.
