I wore the title of "Business Systems Analyst" for 5 years. It wasn't a full out mockery of the title, but it certainly wasn't to the caliber that many places are expecting you to be.
I've been job hunting for the last 4 months and came across a position that worked very closely with my wife's profession. I worked for a previous employer(before my most recent) that was in a similar industry, but my role had little to do with what I'm interviewing for.
So I applied to the job, dropped my wife's name and field, said that I married into the industry, and that I felt my previous job had set me up to do well in a similar role.
My biggest hangup is that I don't have any true - hands on - experience in the field. Just second hand information that I've either quizzed my wife on, or she force fed to me.
I'm interested in the job, think it would be a great move for my career, and believe that I could hit the ground running and catch up.
But how do you explain that to the interviewers? Is there a tactful way of saying "I don't know what I'm doing in this position, but I'm certain I can learn it quickly."?
I've got till next Wednesday to crash course myself in preparation.
