Any input on Tequila?

Patron is ok, but I've always thought that it's a bit overrated and overpriced. That's just my opinion, though.

My favorites are: Herradura, Don Julio, Corazon, and perhaps one or two others. I shoot them all, as I don't think I'll ever be able to sip alcohol; "training wheels" optional, depending on your mood.

Chinako is good stuff but I might have mispelled it.
Patron anejo is delicious and gives a trippy head w/out a hangover.

I like Cuervo 1800, I used to drink it with no salt or lime. I dont drink Tequila anymore because everytime I do, I blackout. Last time I threwup in my car with my wife driving and she had to throw me in the bathtub with my clothes on where i passed out.

Which would you suggest for me if i were looking for a smooth taste, that doesn't require "training wheels" something i can take stragith? Anything off the top shelf?

I told my mom about my research into tequila, and what do i come home to find on my desk? a bottle of herradura anejo!!

Jose Cuervo 'cause its cheap!! You can do shots of it just fine and it mixes well. I don't have an experience with expensive tequilas . . . I'm just a college kid - we buy alchohol for the ethyl alchohol/price ratio. Everclear is the good stuff - you can dillute it so far you don't taste it but it'll still be higher proof than vodka. woot!

Chinaco Reposado is IMHO the best for very expensive margharitas - i.e., ones made with nothing but a large portion of tequila, Cointreau, and the juice of several limes (maybe a bit of sugar if serving to someone not used to such a drink).

Tres Generations is a cheaper and also good alternative - both hold up well to the limes.

For sipping, El Tesoro in the hand-blown glass cactus bottle can't be beat...yeah, the bottle shouldn't count, but it does...and El Tesoro is amongst the smoothest tequilas. If seeking a stronger flavor Chinaco Anjeo rules...

My wife and I usually go for anything Reposado. Aging tends to make it smoother. Haven't shelled out the bucks for Anejo yet... someday.

The best tequila for sipping without the need nor want of "training wheels" is:

Casa Nobel Reposado

The Casa Nobel line is somewhat hard to find. I have to go to a fine spirits mom&pop store on beachside to get it...and usually have to have them order it (sometimes have on shelf but usually no).

The stuff is aged at the max Reposado can be (1 year) in small french white oak barrels. The small barrels increase surface to volume ratio and impart a very slight vanilla-nut aftertaste to the tequila. Very smooth going down and imparts a good flavor and warmness going down.
