Just wondering if I should bother buying and tinkering with XP or wait for the next one. At this point, I have no intention of replacing win2k pro with any version of XP, just using it seperately to try it out.

I see no benefit of replacing win2k really... I don't need a "prettier" GUI. :)

straubs, I've read and heard that XP is more stable then W2K, but it depends on your hardware. I'm looking forward to upgrading to XP for it's stability, but will not do so untill I upgrade my motherboard, processor & HD. I know my current h/w will work, I'm currently dual booting between Win ME & XP, but untill at least the 1st service pack comes out, I'll wait as some of my hardware still needs full driver support. In the end, full driver support and cost should be what you should use to factor your decision. Just my 2 cents, hope this helps.

It will such 30 % more than the last one, while costing 2 times as much.. continuing a trend that has been going on for years.

My Win2k does not crash. And neither does my machine at work. In fact, I know many people with it and none have crashing problems. I fail to see how XP could be better in that area... Now, going from ME to XP, as you've stated is the case for yourself, is a HUGE step up in stability. But so would the jump from ME to 2K. Or really ME to any OS ;)
