Has anyone heard about the 64 bit version of windows? Or when it is expected to come out? Just want to know when to start looking into upgrading to 64 bit hardware.

Yes we have massed a great deal of fairly useless and irrelevent information on the subject.

The reality is that nobody knows when Windows 64 is going to be released.

Frankly, because the main reason is because practicly everytime MS makes a comment about it, it's fairly vague and continously changing.

How many times they push back windows 95 release? You know they named it win95 to force the developers to realise that this time they realy ment it. They swear they were going to get windows 2000 out by 1999 and they did... on Dec 17, they made the due date by 14 days.

Seems like MS is having a hard time updating it's windows offerings.. AMD 64 is pretty much non-existant exept for beta testers. And the fabled longhorn OS was pushed back to a vague 2006-2007++ date.

Not that I care a whole lot. It's a good thing to get mature OS from MS, because it cuts down on the rest of the crap the rest of the internet has to deal with. And since I am bit of a Linux fan (guessed that?) I like that while my OS is under continous developement and each month my OS gets a bit better and more stable/usefull, and windows users are forced to use software years old. Oh well.

My best guess for XP AMD-64 is going to be out for mainstream consumption around next fall.

Thanks for the other info on the other threads. I've got an idea about when Microsoft will issue a release.
