Any immigration lawyers or INS experts in the house?

My wife finally got her permanent resident card (only took 2.2 years!) and of course they screwed up her birthday on the card. Instead of 10 for the day, they put 01.

The help line told us this:

File I-90 (AGAIN! :|)
Pay $80
Then they'll send an appointment letter
Redo the fingerprinting again.
Then they'll send out the card again in 6 months (yeah right :|)

Does that sound right? I don't understand why we have to shell out $80 more money because they fvcked up. I hate the god damn INS (or BCIS or USCIS or whatever they decide to name their incompetent selves)

can't help ya, but i share the sentiments about the INS offices. they f-up so many times, it's ridiculous. i personally know of a few U.S. citizenship applications they've "lost" and the process has gotten screwed up. my application is on hold because of some nonsense and we've gotten the help of an INS lawyer. the lawyer worked for the INS for 10 years and basically said they give me a hard time hoping i'll just give up and save them the paperwork. wonderful.

Unfortunately, the USCIS (formerly INS) pretty much works based on the philosophy that they don't need you, you need them. I'm pretty sure you have to re-file the I-90 and go through the process again. In order to fight this and get a 'correction' done, you'd have to hire an attorney familiar with immigration procedures, something that is sure to be way more expensive.
