Don't be so negative. Have you gone to one or a few dance classes? I'm sure you will find some that only guys go to but I have not heard of any of friends turning up and only guys are there. Most have lots of single women and most are lacking guys to dance with.

Just keep going until you find a dance class with the people and attitude you like. I have been to afew athletics club and my current one the first 'coach' I met was the biggest pr!ck I have ever met. That did not stop me from picking up hurdling with the other coaches.

1. I don't like photography, maybe a cooking class I would consider.
I was considering taking something like lit class at a local CC for fun, but themn I remembered I hated the gen ed classes as an undergrad and I don't like reading.

2. Community organizations- I'm not a helpful guy, working in a soup kitchen or picking up trash isn't my thing and it fills m with no joy in doing these things.

3. Political stuff, I am the wrong guy for this. I'd get kicked out sooner or later, because the first time I se any inconsistencies I'll rag on it very loudly for everyone to hear. A coworker is in the young republicans and I could join if I wanted to but his chapter is closer to work which is far away from where I live.

I'd say the best thing to do is make a lot of friends - get into a lot of activities. Which does not have to include drinking. Maybe start playing an instrument, surf, volleyball, base ball, soft ball etc... I'm sure there are many local clubs to join to keep you busy. The best thing to do is not look for friends or companionship. Just let it happen.

I'm in a somewhat similar boat as you OP, except that I hang out with my neighbors and drink beer on the front lawn sometimes.

I would be VERY interested in joining an investment club, but I doubt there any in my area.

Try a church like Unity that really isn't focused on religion. Lots of people go to church simply to meet people.

I'm not a club person, I've been to a few and they;re usually very loud and I think I'm kinda old for clubs.

26 ain't old, buddy

but if you are seriously against the bar/club scene: get a grill, buy some steaks, buy some beer, invite your friends, have them invite their friends, get some women, and enjoy.

I've tried that, but all my friend's chick friends are homely.

their dude friends are a mixed bag. Most of them are a bunch of tools, the few that are are ok are just not people I click with. They might be cool people, but not people I feel like I want to hang out with.

for a few examples, one guy talks too much- he just doesn't shut up (but he does have cool stories). And then theres another guy who was kinda nice to me but he was a prick to one of my friends. Then theres the married guys, the never get to go out so I don't even bother making conversation with them.

You're only 26! The exactly the demographic that go to the nicer city clubs. Yuppies aka. Young Professionals.

Tell you what. Since you want to meet new people, you're probably going to have to expand your comfort bubble a bit. Because from what you're describing, new people aren't going to want to meet you.

Someone suggested inviting your existing friends to a BBQ, and they should invite their friends and so on. That's a great idea.

Back in college, my friends and I hosted wine parties (or whatever alchohol you like). Everyone brings a bottle and an orderve (sp?). By the end of the night, there's plenty of great food and everyone's sloshed enough to have some good loose conversation.

Try to have decent music and activities/drinking games (so everyone doesn't just go off into their own little cliques and chat). Quarters works everytime, regardless of how old you are.

Ummm.... no. You will meet a bunch of guys who joined to meet a bunch of girls.

Wrong clubs.

Could be worse. You could meet guys who joined to meet those other guys that thought they could meet girls.

church, join a club of some kind, take a class at the local college. They have "life" classes too ya know. Pick up the paper and read about events/meetings that might interest you and attend them. Making friends doesn't just fall in your lap. Now go out and make friends.

the options are limitless really

How to meet people at Starbucks:

Bring something that you are REALLY interested in and that is obvious enough to catch people's attention - a large format book about comedy movie classics, for example. Sit down, look around. Smile slightly and nod slightly at anyone who looks back at you.

Laugh out loud a few times while you're reading, and look around. Somebody will respond to you. If you look approachable, people will say "what are you reading?". You tell them, and ask if they like it.

Etc. Conversation ensues. If you like talking to them, exchange phone numbers/email/carrier pigeon data.

You do have to work a little bit at making friends.

Interesting T-Shirts also are good at inviting others to make comments.

Another Starbucks thing you can do is Become a regular. Pick a time (every day at 11? Tuesday after work? etc) and go. Be extra nice to the staff - pay attention to them, smile at them, ask for their advice. If you always order the same thing, they'll have your order ready for them, if you always order different things, ask for their advice.

Once you get comfy, notice who else is a regular. Lots of people are. Say hi.

Once you say hi on a regular basis, break your leg (just kidding, but you get the idea) and everybody will start talking to you.

I live not ten minutes away from EKKC, yet he never responds to my posts; don't listen to him. He wants nothing to do with you. :p

That's some really good advice. You might want to try that out.

Bottom line is that you are going to have to move out of your comfort zone to meet new people. All people are the same.

They take sh!ts and fart just like you do. Don't think they are "better" than you.

That ones easy. Just 'accidentally' spill your cappicino on her breasts and offer to clean it off back at your place. You can thank me later.
