I just swapped an abit via vt6x4 MB with a ECS K7S5A and figured I'd try to do it without a fresh reinstall, of W98SE, although I know that the fresh reinstall is recommended. Everything worked better than I expected. I can run my programs fine and everything was detected well and given the updated drivers I had downloaded prior to the swap. My only problem is when going on most sites on the internet or when opening a game like microsoft flight simulator the system locks with a grey box popping up stating DDhelp error or violation. I found 3 of these applications on my computer and the properties say they are microsoft direct x helpers. Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this? All my other programs and email work fine so I think it is specifically related to a Direct X application problem as I remember Direct X coming on the Flight simulator CD when I installed it a couple of years ago. Any help to avoid a fresh reinstall would be a appreciated as I have no other hangups with the system.
