Any ideas how to get from western CT to Newark airport

I chose a flight out of newark thinking that Connecticut Limo would take me there. As it turns out - it does not. So far everything seems to be against me:

1) I don't want to take my car to the airport since long term parking is very expensive and they don't have covered parking
2) I'm asking a friend only as the last resort, since the flight leaves pretty early and I don't want to trouble anybody.
3) Tried to rent a car but I can't since I'm 22

This just adds to my already big dislike for travelling. Honestly, I'm starting to hate this trip. Does anybody from around here have any suggestions?

Update: Looks like I'll be able to rent a car after all. Thanks everybody for their advice.

Go south until you hit I95.
Take I95 south into NJ and eventually you will see signs to Newark.

From Hartford - figure 2-3 hours.

Depending on the value of your time, either change your primary flight to go out of Hartford, or take a shuttle flight to Newark.

I would never drive 2-3 hours to get a flight unless the price difference was exceedingly or there were no other options.

You might be better off looking for some public transportation to get you into the NYC/NJ area and then getting an airport shuttle.

Where exactly are you coming from?

If you are near Danbury, do the following:

84 West
684 South
Saw Mill South
West Side Highway/ Henry Hudson South
Lincoln Tunnel
Hoboken Exit - immediately after exiting tunnel
Go through Hoboken
Turn Right onto Observer Highway
Go round bend to the left
go ~3 blocks
turn right onto Holland Tunnel exit road
Get on 1/9 Pulaski Skyway
Newark airport is now 5 minutes away

This route will beat whatever Mapquest gives you by 30 minutes minimum

They should have shuttles... check your local colleges, most have shuttles going back and forth for a decent rate.

A bus is another option... Greyhound has student rates.

If worse comes to worst, go for the friend. You'll just owe them a big favor later. :)

Good luck!

He said he is not leaving his car there hence he isn't driving-doesn't need driving directions.

Don't think you have too many choices, ever consider the train?

Sorry for not being clear - I'm not asking for driving directions. I know how to get to Newark - but I can't drive since I don't want to leave my car at the airport. Especially with the kind of weather we've been having.

A friend used to take a bus into the Port Authority bus terminal from somewhere out there in Connecticut, then one of the shuttles to Newark airport. I'm sure there's some bus line that runs near to where you are into the city, and maybe a train line or two.

Saw from your profile that your are in Danbury.

Ignore my I95 suggestion - the I84 option is better.
One of the airport car rentals should be able to get you a car for a one-way trip - figure $40.

Can't - noone will rent me a car since I'm 22. Gotta be 25 to rent a car.

2 things

One option is to drive to Brewster and take the train to the city. There is an airport shuttle that leaves from Grand Central

You can also drive (use my directions...) and park off-site. there are a number of off-site lots that have shuttles. They are all on 1/9 so my directions will take you right to them (stay on 1/9 local). I think the airport Hilton has covered parking. Give them a call.

Greyhound $25 from Danbury to Newark without any discounts

Plane fare will be about $150 each way

Have to be at the airport at 9am. Greyhound's earliest bus arrives at 11. It did sound like a good option though.

1) Ask a friend to drive you, pay him for gas tolls and time.

2) Connecticut direct to Newark would be a bitch. You can always hire a livery service, but that would cost a fortune. NYC to Newark is easy, there are shuttles from every major transportation hub. You'll need to take a train to Grand Central or Penn Station or a bus to the Port Authority Terminal and catch a shuttle from there.

When are you leaving? Is there time to change to a flight departing from LaGuardia, JFK or Bradley? That'll make your life so much easier. I live in southern CT and will NEVER use Newark, it's always a headache. Got forced to fly in and out of there twice on business since my company is based in Elizabeth NJ. Newark wins my award as world's crappiest airport.

Looks like I'll be able to rent from Avis after all. We have a corporate account and I can rent from them if I use it. And to think I was getting ready to call my ex-girlfriend, who lives not far from there, asking if I can park my car at her place. Phew, that would've been embarassing.
