Any ideas for a persuasive speech?

I hate giving speeches and I always have a terrible time coming up with a good topic...anyone have any good ideas? The time limit is 8 minutes, so it can't really be any big issue (ie a friend of mine is doing cell phone usage). Help? Thanks

I'd rather not do guns, abortion, stuff like that. Although they are big issues, and I have strong feelings about both, they are a bit cliche'd...

implementing better 911 services nationwide
better airbags standards
better vaccination programs for children
censorship (in general, on the net, so on)

persuasive speeches that are good will cite great stats that back up their point and usually have a direction for some kind of change.

I haven't read/heard any news topics that have made me angry, they're all pretty typical of society...

You can always talk about the entire firestone/ford explorer issue. Did you know that tread seperation does not lead to roll over. The entire public has been deliberately misinformed about the issue. The Ford Explorer never had a roll over problem!!!. The tread seperation issue is real, though for the media to link it to a specific vehicle (and any resultant deaths) is totally out of line. All those people that died...it ain't cause of the tire, its because of the driver reacted inappropriatley to the situation.

Say that last line, that'll wake everyone up.

As for the actual speech, whatever you decide to do it on, be sure to make eye contact and be well-versed in your topic area.

My sister knows someone whose tire blew...rolled their SUV and killed her fiance. I think they were on the way to look at rings or something marriage related :frown:
