Any idea why my wireless network diconnects when I enable WEP (wireless encryption protocol) in the LAN software?

If I choose anything else besides Disable (the other choices are 64 bit and 128 bit encryption) I lose my network connection.

I have a USR 22Mbs wireless router.

Thanks.

You know you need to put the key in the network configuration for the client computer too? You will loose your connection until you put in the key. Sorry if I've offended you by going over the obvious, but I just wanted to be sure you weren't leaving out this step 🙂

Hey soybomb I haven't seen you for a while.

No, you didn't offend me; you taught me something....thanks!

What will enabling WEP do for me?

It takes every packet of data and encrypts it with 64/128/256 bits, and it gets decrypted on the other end with the key.

In practical application, it will trash your throughput, so if you're more worried about people leeching your connection than you are intercepting your data, then I would go for enabling a MAC address filter.
