Any idea when the 4890s are going to dry out?

When the 5000 series was launched I was hoping to grab a 5850 for around $210 this Christmas (silly me!). So now that I know that won't be possible for quite some time I'm thinking the 4890 will still be a noticeable upgrade for me (I game @ 1080p). So I don't know if I should grab the 4890 now before they start disappearing or wait until the 5850 goes back to $230 and is in stock, because I don't really game that much these days, I just have the upgrade itch.

So whaddaya all think?

Personally I'm waiting for the 58xx to get back down where they belong, even if it means waiting for Fermi. At that point who knows, it might even be a better price/performance ratio. Anyway, I say fight the itch!

The chip yields are still woefully low so the 5850 won't come down for some time. I'm more looking forward to the new 300 series from nVidia in Q1 2010 to push prices down on the 275, 280, and 290 cards.

I've read somewhere that 4890 would be in production til next February or so.

I'll try to find the information.

You'll be lucky to find any retail GTX2xx cards after the GT300 launch. Unless, nvidia releases a renamed version, which they like to do.

4850's are already scarce...for the good ones anyway. Might as well grab a good 4890 now.

Yes. If you want a 2xx after 3xx launch, just peel back the 3xx's stickers. Bingo! 2xx.

if you already have a 4850, why not get another and cross fire them. You'll get better performance and spend less money doing it. Considering your PSU is up to it

I was pretty much sure they ARE already EOL, and all you can find now are the last batches released, as well as those that have been in retail channels since.

But if you find information that says otherwise, all the better. More options for us at the start of next year, should be pretty interesting.

Frustrating, can't find the damn article I've seen, so feel free to disregard the info and jump on 4890. :)
