I need a new video card and would really like to go the ATI route for better image quality. Does anyone know when the RV250 based cards will hit the market and how much $$$ they will be? Thanks

I think you mean "the ATI route". It seems your AMD bias has warped your brain ;)

8500 works just fine and performs as well as the Ti500 these days. Best bargain for your money currently.

LMAO, I think you are right Jiffylube. I just figured that if I will be buying a new one and the RV250 is coming out soon then I should get that.

According to the rumours we should see it in March/April.

I'm not one for political correctness but I have to say that your signature could be taken with great offense.

Maybe ask your Mom, she might have an answer for ya.

I don't have your trouble apparently as my Wife, Grandma, Mom and Daughter are 4 of the best "people" I've ever known.

Actually it is just a joke. No I am not gay. Most people find it funny but if it really bothers you guys, then I will take it out. It was a quote that I saw on the board in my English class. It actually originally said guys instead of girls, but someone erased it and put girls, and it didnt bother me that someone but guys. Now, back to the original point of this thread. If it comes out in March/April, will it be worth waiting for instead of getting the 8500 now?

Absolutely without question. Even if you don't like it at least it'll make the Radeon 8500 prices drop.

Argh, you're making me work on St. Pat's day? OK, here it is:

Radeon 8700
Core/mem: 350MHz/550MHz
64MB DDR

Radeon 8800
Core/mem: 350/600
128MB DDR

And of course both have the dual monitor support, DVD acceleration, Truform, Smoothvision, etc. etc.

This is due out in April.

April, oh man!!!!!!!!!!! I cant wait that long. I sure hope they arent expensive too. Why in the radeon 8700 did they increase the core clock 75mhz, but didnt touch the memory? Isn't a faster memory frequency supposed to help more than a faster core?

The new core (R250) is just that, a new GPU. What performance gains it will bring are unknown, but it seems obvious that it *at least* clocks about 30% faster.

You are right about the memory speed being more important that clock speed, but that was with the old R200 core. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the benchmarks show, and then look at the price/performance. At the very least, the price of the 8500 should drop.

I guess the rumors of the 8700 being 300/300 and the 8800 being 350/350 werent quite true, if that link is correct.

Oh well, guess that means Ill have to wait a little while longer to upgrage my card.
