any idea whats causing this?

ok, first here are my system specs:
AMD Xp 1600+
GeForce 2 mx 400
384 mb DDR ram
IBM 60gig hdd
FIC AD11 mobo w/ AMD chipset
Windows XP profesional

ok, so here my problem. I will be playing a game, and after averagely a half an hour, XP will come up with an error that reads something like "This game has caused an error. It must be shut down" then I have a choice to send an error report or not. and then I choose one, and it shuts off. it happens with almost every game. Any idea whats causing this? could it be a heating problem?

did you install the updates from microsofts websites? They have a software compadabilty update maybe this will fix some of those errors! Also could you post the games that this is happening on?

I'l check the MS site. Some games are Counterstrike, Medal of Honor, RTCW, Deus Ex......

could my sound card cause this? I dont havea PCI sound card, just the one on my motherboard. Could taht cause my games to crash?

Sounds like it's getting flaky under load, what heatsink/fan combo are you using, did you use good thermal paste, maybe even the PSU's being stretched a bit, do you have good cooling fans on the case? Does it run longer if you leave the case open? If so you've a heat problem, if not, probably the PSU.

I have trouble running medal of honor also, I am running XP as well, but that is the only game I have had problems with. Other games I have played include Age of Empires II, and Unreal Tournament.

since Im fairly new in the pc tech world, I had some guy in a local shop install my processor, heatsink, and fans. So, I dont know the asnwer to those questions. I checked the temperature of my processor after it froze once, it was 107ºF. Is that hot for an AMD athlon?

is there a chance it could be my sound 'card' on my motherboard? it seems to freeze when there are multiple audio layers sounding, but maybe thats just a coincidence?
