Any idea if the RTX (GTX) 2060 will be close to the GTX 1070?

So I found some articles online stating that the RTX (GTX) 2060 is going to be close to GTX 1070 performance. Has anyone found anything about this?

I want to upgrade my GTX 970 not sure if I should buy a GTX 1070 or GTX 1070ti used or wait and get a GTX 2060.

What are you guys thoughts on the RTX (GTX) 2060? I know I can't afford an RTX 2070 when they release until next year when things start looking up for me.

Thanks, cheers!

Would not be surprised if the 2060 was a literal rebadge of the 1070. I guess it would depend upon whether the 2070 is really TU106 or not.

When you can get a 1070TI 8 gig card for less than $400, why bother with the 2xxx series ?

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAFVF75G4711

Edit: and there are 1080's for $468 and up

You can get GTX 1070ti from eBay for $300-$330 used Shipped. I saw one for $287 shipped but it sold Lol (RIP) I was gonna buy it.

Waiting on more info to drop in the coming weeks. Got hopes. Fingers Crossed.

Wow, you "save" a lot on the that 1070Ti: "Save: $523.09 (57%)" :D

I guess people would be interested in a 2060 if it's <$300 and performed like a 1070.

But right now with a floor price of $500 on the 2070, that is an awful large gap to a $300 2060, maybe there will be a 2070 LE at $400.

The last 2, my thoughts exactly!

When are reviews coming out on 2080 and 2080ti? I have a 1060 right now, and was thinking of springing for a 2080 this time around, but, the benchmarks will tell the tale.

I don't see any 2060's priced right now. I just know that historically, thats a decent price for a new 1070TI. I got 2 right before the prices went up a year ago, and paid $450 each.
Where do you see a 2060 for $300 ?

I just meant reviews, not actual release, don't reviews sometimes come out before release day?
Really not sure but it would make sense that the "Big Names" In the Game would get their hands on early to test. Guess will see as we get closer to release. I know for sure I am selling my GTX 970 in the next 3 weeks before the Prices devalue for older Gen tech.

If you're determined to sell a 970 now, you're either getting a new 2080 or pascal card soon or stuck on igpu for 3-4 months. Given the way things are shaping up, I don't see Nvidia releasing the 2060 anytime soon. Past history has it at 2-4 months after the bigger chips. I waited for the 960 which showed up 3 months after the 970/980 release. The main benefit from that was that the 970 I got came with some free games when I bought it 8-9 months after it came out and later a check for $30 from nvidia for the lawsuit.

The last rumor I read, the review embargo drops on 9/14, so six days before cards go on sale.

I said "if". In the absence of actual prices, some might assume historical pricing trends, or want to wait and see.

Based on the 2080 and 2080TI, I would think they will be a lot higher, and if the trend holds on release, they won't be out until after Christmas.

Anyway, at the moment, I think $400 for a 1070TI is a pretty good deal for a new card.

There is some reason for optimism on 2060 pricing.

The 1060 is NVidias most popular gaming card(judging by Steam results), and cards on the more affordable end of the spectrum are even more price sensitive, so they may be a bit more leery of messing with pricing of the 2060 replacement.

That and there is some reasonable chance that 2060 won't be "burdened" with RT/TPU cores inflating productions costs.

But I agree, that it appears a relatively long way off, and it really doesn't look like we have even seen a credible rumor.

If they can release a 2060 that's significantly more power/performance efficient than the 1060/70 etc then they'll do that for laptops.

Same boat OP, but for me a cheaper 1080/1070 would be more enticing as a mid-range option

- RTX performance would be laughable at that level
- Polaris could be possibly receive yet another incremental refresh
- Nvidia already has plenty of pascal cards to occupy the midrange and hurt AMD
- the purported 35-45% would place it at 1070 tier

Agree with people, it will be a pascal refresh/rebadge at 1070 level, why waste money on cooking up low-end turing dies, and a pre-existing advantage

I would say that the only problem with reusing GP104 is that a literal rebrand of 1070 is already cut 25% and that may not be necessary. A 1536-1664 core Turing with the RT and tensor units removed might be quite a bit smaller than GP104. We'll have to see. Another factor might be where the Pascal glut is.

Maybe what nVidia could do is sell a 1080 rebrand as a 2060 Ti for perhaps $429 or something.

The most popular Nvidia cards for mining were the 1060 & 1070 models, with the 1070 sharing the GP104 die with the 1080. I expect the glut comprised mainly these models, GP104 & GP106.

I can really see NVidia using GP104 as bridge to the 7nm 2060, either with a rebrand or without. 1536 Turing shader cores on 7nm would be tiny, and the tiny dies are good for higher yield on a new process with more issues.

Though NVidia has the resources to do a short lived, moderate benefit "12nmFFN" design as well.

It’s entirely possible that the 2060 launches at $400. NVidia raised prices across the rest of the line, so why expect this to be any different?

They’ll still have a $300 card, but it’ll just be last generation’s $200 card. Maybe they’ll have the neutered version (less or slower memory, fewer CUDA cores) of the 2060 slot in at $300, but the the uncut chip is $400. Same situation as with the 1069 3 GB, only everything moved up the price ladder.

They may as well do it since supply is always constrained at launch and AMD has nothing and looks to have nothing for the foreseeable future so there’s no pressure their either.

Presumably smaller chips will be first on 7nm so maybe they will release a 2060 early next year on same process as 2080/2070s, its either that or as noted above rebrand a 1070 as 2060, and then no 2050 card until TSMC 7nm yields are good enough for it to be viable.

Not sure what they'll do in the end. I'm also guessing a price increase all the way down the line.

As far as the AMD thing goes it's also up in the air. Not really sure what to think about it currently. In the past they didn't really have much luck with revealing cards way before they launched so who knows what's really going on over there.
