Any idea if a display model would have a warranty?

I'm looking at a camera at possibly a good price. The seller has loads of positive feedback.

The item was bought at a closeout as a display model. It powers on, displays menus, etc. just fine, but the seller cannot test the camera because he doesn't have any lenses or a memory card.

Are there warranties for display models?

When I worked at a retail store, the digital cameras had the same warranty as other new cameras. Starts at point of purchase.

Hmmmm... ok. I asked the seller for the serial number. Do you think I could track down when this item was purchased by the serial number?

I'm assuming the point of purchase, erm, ok. I'm confused.

The retail store purchases this camera. Opens it up, uses as a display model. -> is this when the warranty starts?
The retail store goes under. Sells display model to someone -> or is this when the warranty starts?

Warranty starts from the day of purchase. Without a copy of the receipt from the seller, the manufacture would go off the serial number and issue its manufacture's warranty from the date the product was made which is always months before the item was purchased was displayed at the store. Without a copy of the sales receipt, you'll probably only get about ~6 to 8 months of the standard warranty.
