any idea how a GeForce 5200 pci (for example)would get along with a 9800 Pro in the same machine

i need to add one maybe two more monitors to my rig , would it be better to find an ATI pci card instead?

thanks,

Tom

shouldn't pose a problem. if its just going to be for 2d, why not try to find a cheap matrox g450 or something

the ati wil not work with the 5200 unless you're using modified ATI drivers (OMEGA, DNA, etc)

the above was from another member

a few years back i ran a TNT2 agp and a Matrox pci in the same machine and it seemed fine but i've never mixed anything with an ATI

I've mixed Matrox and ATI, no problems. (ATI RagePro AGP as primary, two Matrox Millenium cards as secondaries.)
Theoretically, at least, you could even mix ATI and NV cards in one rig, but I would be certain to strictly disable all non-essential "enhancement" applications, like ATI's hotkey thing, and NV's desktop-management stuff. I've also mixed newer (multi-mon capable/MMIO-able) S3-based PCI cards with any other cards with no problems. (Might want to likewise not install the S3 refresh control-panel software though.)

think i'll just look for a Parhelia so i can run 3840x1024 across three 19" screens

thanks for the input 🙂
